Items and Upgrade Components in World of Warcraft
Upgrades can boost the value of armor and weapons. Upgrades to common and magic equipment aren't worth it, as rare or unique items will quickly outclass them.
Upgrades can be added to an item up to six times. Each upgrade will add to the item gauge.

Rare and Epic items can be upgraded to levels nine, while Uncommon items can only be upgraded to level six.
Growthstones can be obtained through NPCs in major cities, or from the auction house of the player. You can also receive them as a reward for the Ancient Arena Season. These items can be used to upgrade abilities that are passive, as well as to level up weapons and armor.
Once you have enough Growthstones, you can visit any Equipment Enchanting NPC to increase the level of your gear's upgrade. Growthstones are needed for various weapons, armor and accessories. The items that don't belong in your recycling are batteries, plastic grocery bags, and wire hangers. These items can cause fires in recycling plants and tangling problems for recycling equipment and trucks. Instead, you should bring them to the nearest recycling drop-off point.
Suffix
Suffixes are upgrades that can be used to improve weapons and armor. They can be reclaimed by removing them from items or purchased from an online retailer using the Salvage Kit. Upgrades are color coded to indicate which item types they can be applied to. Identified upgrades are able to be sold to merchant for gold. Upgrades can be made with up to two prefixes and one suffix. Upgrades can only be applied to items with blue or higher rarity, including those dropped from end-chests in Factions and Nightfall campaigns. Upgrade components cannot be used to craft new items.
A suffix is an extra word or group of characters that adds meaning to another word. For example -tion in create or phoria in feeling. Suffixes may also alter the speech part of a word, such as English's -er or German's -ismus. They can even rewrite a word. For instance the word defenseless is changed to unprotected.
There are many suffixes that range from adjectives, verbs, nouns and adverbs. The addition of suffixes to words can change their meaning or pronunciation, and some have special rules that apply. Suffixes can also be used to alter the grammatical rules for example, adding the suffix -ness to the word to make it an adjective or -ic to a noun to make it possessive.
Suffixes are not only used to give a new meaning to words, but they can be used to add names of places and people. A single man could have the surname "Paulauskaite", while the wife of a married woman would be able to use "Paulauskiene".
The most commonly used suffixes indicate the status of the person. They include -ion and -ist. They can also be used to describe the traits of a person's personality, such as -iveness or -phoria.
Item affixes can be utilized to enhance weapons and armor with additional parameters that provide bonuses. They are often a combination of one or more suffixes, or prefixes. For instance, -Fiery increases atk power through adding fire elemental damages. Item affixes are available for most items of level 80, except for crafting ascended armor and trinkets.
